If you knew you could have eternal life, would you let yourself have that gift? Here’s another Christmas Gift That Money Can’t Buy.
A Game Changer
I grew up in a religious home, but somehow I never realized that a person could be assured of heaven. The impression I had was that heaven was a guessing game, and the uncertainty of whether we would go there was meant to keep us in line. Do more good than bad, cross your fingers, don’t establish eye contact, pretty much assume that if you didn’t do anything rash you were probably gonna make it there when you died.
And then one day I read this:
And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.” (I John 5:11-13)
Crossing Your Fingers vs. Settled Assurance
That was foundational for me, because I stepped out of the world of crossing my fingers and stepped into the world of knowing about my eternal destiny.
How about you do the same? When you’re gazing at that manger scene this year, why don’t you enter into a place of settled assurance. This is no guessing game. Pray, “Lord Jesus, thank you for coming to earth as the incarnate God. Thank you for living a perfect life and eventually being the perfect, unblemished, sacrifice for people like me who always go astray. Thank you for paying the price for my sin. I accept the gift of eternal life which you freely offer me. It is the gift of You.”
Make that decision, and let me know that you did! I’m happy to help you on your first steps of settled assurance.
