To use the words of a friend of mine, I feel like it’s the first day of the rest of my life. I have less than one month left with Converge Worldwide, the organization with which I’ve spent my entire 30-year ministry career starting new churches. Around 800 new works have been started stateside since the days when we said we’d “start churches that didn’t smell like churches.”
I’m not done.
There are three major spheres of expanded ministry in my future. Numbers two and three will be highlighted in the next couple of months, but for now, here is the first: please check out my new website: www.tompnebel.com. It represents one of my three emphases. You can follow my blog, find coaching help, book me for speaking engagements and keep up with my other activities as I serve those who lead church multiplication and other expressions of Christian ministry.
You’ll see four words that describe what I’m up to: Speaker, Author, Coach, Provocateur.
I spoke at a regional church last Sunday and later on in the day a young lady wrote to me:
“My husband and I were there both times you taught at Community during Pastor Ken’s sabbatical and both times were phenomenal. God’s absolutely gifted you with reaching people and making His word understandable and applicable to everyday life. Thank you so much for your transparency! Hope you come back soon :).”
Her words meant a lot to me!
I’m also happy to announce that my newest book, Leading Church Multiplication: Locally, Regionally and Nationally, comes out this week. It’s co-authored with my friend, Steve Pike. Our teaching focuses on helping each multiplying organization save at least $100,000 and 100 hours of unnecessary headaches. I hope you’ll look for it, read it and share it (get your copy here). Steve and I will be teaching scores of denomination and network leaders this week (August 7) at LifeWay Research in Nashville, based on this book.
I am a maximizer. In short, that means I help people do better. “Go further faster.” I am a nuts-and-bolts practical coach. I am glad for the theoreticians among us, but I don’t tread a lot in those waters.
Those who know me best know that I don’t give predictable head-nodding answers. I require thinking, innovation, and laughter– and I believe most traction is gained when we are in a safe, life-giving, and open relationship with each other. The national leader of an organization I consulted with last week encouraged me with these words:
“Provocateur is the title I like best. Time with you last week was confirming, sharpening and entertaining! You helped me more than you probably know.”
As I said, expect to hear from me about spheres two and three soon. Thanks for spreading the word!
